Family Health Project and Greater Lawrence Family Health Center Launch Three-Year Alliance to Support New Mothers and Babies
On: April 22, 2026
Lawrence, MA — Family Health Project (FHP) and Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) today announced a three-year agreement to provide direct financial support to 20 new mothers and their babies in the Lawrence community.
Through the initiative, each participating mother will receive $400 per month for 36 months, offering consistent, unrestricted financial assistance during the critical early years of her child’s development.
FHP’s program is designed to strengthen maternal and infant health outcomes by addressing economic instability, one of the most significant social determinants of health. Research consistently shows that predictable cash support can reduce stress, improve housing and food security, and enable parents to make decisions that best support their families’ well-being.
“This collaboration reflects a simple but powerful belief: mothers know what they need,” said Katie Misuraca, Director of Development for Family Health Project. “By providing steady, unconditional monthly support, we’re helping mothers stabilize their households during one of the most important developmental windows in a child’s life. When financial pressure decreases, parental confidence and child well-being increase.”
Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center serving thousands of families across the Merrimack Valley, will help identify eligible participants and integrate the program within its maternal and pediatric care services.
“As healthcare providers, we see every day how financial stress directly affects maternal and infant health,” said Zandra Kelley, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Greater Lawrence Family Health Center. “This collaboration allows us to address not only clinical needs, but also the underlying economic challenges that shape health outcomes. Supporting mothers in this way is preventive medicine.”
Participants will be enrolled shortly after childbirth and will receive monthly payments for three years, a period widely recognized by pediatric and developmental experts as foundational for cognitive, emotional, and physical growth.
Family Health Project has partnerships already in place with the Lynn Community Health Center and Whittier Street Health Center. Expansion into the Merrimack Valley continues to demonstrate that, by embedding within a trusted community health provider like Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, FHP’s direct support strategy can be widely replicated in diverse communities to strengthen maternal and infant health outcomes.
Family Health Project is a nonprofit organization focused on improving maternal and child health through direct economic support strategies and community partnerships. Greater Lawrence Family Health Center provides comprehensive primary care, dental, behavioral health, and specialty services to residents of Lawrence and surrounding communities, regardless of ability to pay.
